  • You spend the next week on a ship. Destination: Skrell. As soon as you arrive, you see the damage that the dictator has done to this once proud kingdom. The dockworkers appear malnourished and weary as they move parcels around, while guards bearing the dictator’s seal appear fat, and happy.

As you pick up your luggage you see it – two guards bullying a small boy. There’s no time to start like the present. How do stop the guards while drawing attention to the injustices of this city?

  • You throw the orange and it hits a guard in the eye. Rancid liquid runs down his face as we wipes his brow. You casually toss another piece up and down in your hand.

“Why don’t you leave him alone and find something better to do with your time?” you say.

The guards charge but you spryly jump away and leap atop the maze of shipping crates littered across the dock. They give chase but are unable to keep up with your spritely gate. You execute a series of complex jumps that bring you even with the city wall. Heaving yourself up the side, you call out to the townsfolk.

“Why do you let a tyrant rule you, chastise you for speaking out, and have his thugs punish your children? Rise up – make a stand! Take control of your destiny and revolt against your oppressors!”

You disappear over the wall. By the time the guards make it to the other side, you are nowhere to be seen.

  • The guards have their backs turned to you as you approach. They push the boy to the ground. Grabbing a thick piece of wood from the debris scattered across the dock, you hit them in the back of the knees, causing them both to stumble in their heavy armor.

You leap onto a nearby crate and add the momentum to your leg as you kick the nearest guard. You strike him in the jaw and he falls like a sack of bricks. You jump again onto the remaining guard and use your bodyweight to force him to the ground. A few precise hits to his neck and he is unconscious as well.

You rise and brush the dirt from your tunic, saying, “I can no longer watch while our people are treated with cruelty and malice. This madness must end. We must rise up against our oppressors and take control of our destinies!”

Several people clap for you – others look on in trepidation. You make your escape before reinforcements arrive.

  • You’ve been in Skrell for two weeks. Word of your incident at the dock has people talking. Every day you learn a little bit more about the kingdom, its inhabitants, and the atrocities perpetrated by the dictator. You managed to ingratiate yourself at a local tavern and have learned of two groups open to a potential resistance. The only downside is that these groups detest each other. Years of bickering and backstabbing make a reconciliation impossible – you can choose only one to join in your fight. Who do you choose to grow your ranks?
  • Your trust in the guild pays off and the resistance receives numerous benefits and supplies. In addition to their creative talents, the guild members are also generous with their coin. They donate monies to the resistances’ coffers regularly for food and other provisions.

  • A well-fed army is a happy army. The resistance members welcome the Harvest Alliance with open arms and are treated to bountiful meals.

But there is a foul actor in the mix. A member of the Harvest Alliance remains loyal to the dictator and poisons an evening meal shared by over 50 resistance members. Though the members survive the poison, your force is severely weakened and your plans are pushed back for weeks.

Luckily, Handivar is able to identify the perpetrator and lock him up in a holding cell before he can do further damage.

  • You’ve been in Skrell for three months now. All of the plotting, scheming, and persuading citizens to join your cause has led to this. Your forces have grown to be nearly 2,000 strong. Because the royal guard outnumbers your resistance two-to-one, your plan doesn’t involve brute force.

With your numbers large enough, you plan to march up to the capital market and speak to the crowds. You hope that your stirring words and the sight of their fellow countrymen will make the citizens of Skrell rise up and overthrow the dictator with a minimum of bloodshed. What do you say to rouse the spirits of the populace?

  • You approach the center of the market and say:

“Citizens of Skrell! For so long you have endured. Endured torment. Endured suffering. Endured pain. Today that ends. We have formed a resistance to oppose this hateful regime and ask that you join us for this historic day. I can’t promise that we will win. But I can promise you that if you don’t join us, we will lose. So I urge you – come with us and throw off your shackles of oppression. Take control of your destiny and fight against those who have wronged you.”

As you say your final words, you point to the royal guards stationed at the perimeter of the market. Slowly at first, but then as a burgeoning throng the citizens of Skrell move against the guards. Soon overwhelmed, the guards fall as your crowd marches toward the citadel. Several hours of fighting later, and the dictator is hauled out in chains. With your mission complete, you spend a week reveling in the celebrations before boarding a ship back home.

  • You approach the center of the market and say:

“Citizens of Skrell! Today is your day. We are a resistance, formed to rebel against the evils perpetrated by our dictator. And now we are poised to make history and grant our nation the freedom that it deserves. But we need your help. Though we are many, we are not enough to take on the dictator’s forces alone. So I ask you to rise up with us and fight. Fight for your freedom. Fight for your dignity. Fight for your right to do what you want and forge your own destiny.”

You signal your forces to charge against the royal guards stationed around the market. The citizens of Skrell, roused by your words and the actions of your compatriots, join you in the march to the citadel. Several hours of fighting ensues through the compact halls of the citadel – it only ends when you bring out the dictator in chains. With your mission complete, you spend a week reveling in the celebrations before boarding a ship back home.

  • Chapter One: From the Advisor's Perspective

Laughing all the way to the local tavern, you realize that this movement is going to be more fun than actual work for a person of your quickness and skill. Justice has been done this day, and the town guard has been put on notice that you have arrived!

While it is not normally our style of investing a client’s assets, sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the situation at hand.

Be that in evaluating a real estate purchase, picking up shares in your favorite mutual fund, or buying a struggling business, we can help you analyze and in some cases execute these transactions to help grow your assets over time.

  • Chapter One: From the Advisor's Perspective

Realizing that you were not as young as you once were, you lick your wounds after turning the corner from view of the crowd and wander over to the local inn, where you will setup your residency during this campaign. This situation could have quickly made a turn for the worse, but you are glad to have survived it and used it to launch your campaign with a bang.

Sometimes, life is a struggle. You accomplish your goal in the end, but not in an easy way.

This is where a seasoned financial professional can help evaluate your options and play to a strategy that better suits your skills and means, all while making sure you are not assuming too much risk on the way to accomplishing your long-term objectives.

You don’t have to be a hero to accomplish your goals. With proper planning, nearly anything is possible, and there are many paths to get there.

  • Chapter Two: From the Advisor's Perspective

Returning to your resting place for the evening, you feel good about your new friends. With skills that complement the cunning and quickness you possess, you feel confident that you have chosen the right ally for this campaign.

This is a tricky scenario, one which requires a little more analysis than some of the others we have presented.

You chose to go with quality of partners over quantity.

On the surface, it may seem that you would logically want more of something, like soldiers or more shares of an investment, if you were looking at accumulating raw resources to use later.

However, upon closer examination, the skills and resources of the Artisan’s Guild played into Lanera’s strengths, which will likely amplify her gains in this campaign.

Often, choosing something of quality in the investment world is not as exciting or may not be as easy to do as one might think. A professional is very useful in this instance, as they can help you separate the quality from the promissory nature of worse investments, which can give a false sense of being more valuable in the long term.

  • Chapter Two: From the Advisor's Perspective

“Ugh, why did I pick them?” you ask yourself as you take refuge in your room at the inn, heaving into your bedpan.

Just like this scenario, when you DIY invest in real life things can sometimes take an unexpected turn. We hear clients say things like, “This article I read said it was a great thing,” or “my cousin said I’d make a fortune,” only for them to recognize later that what they bought was too good to be true.

We may not be flashy in our approach to investment recommendations, but we can help you navigate the many distractions and smoke screens the real world will throw at you on your path to accomplishing your long-term plans. We always do our best to put you in the best possible position to succeed.

  • Chapter Three: From the Advisor's Perspective

On the ship ride home, you reflect upon your adventures in Skrell. While you did it for the financial gain, you feel you gained more than just money from your experience. And, in turn, the citizens of Skrell will be the long-term winners.

Profit is not a bad word in our practice. And, we profit most by helping our clients to gain more than we will ever receive monetarily.

Our asset management fees are setup to where when you make more, we make more.

We’re in our client relationships for the long haul, wherever that may take us. If you do not feel that way in your current advisor relationship, talk to us.

  • Chapter Three: From the Advisor's Perspective

Headed for home, you are nearly overcome with emotion at the outpouring of the citizens storming the compound and fighting for their freedom. In that moment, you reflect upon the reward you will receive upon your return and vow to give that sum to the city treasury of Skrell to help them rebuild, as your personal growth has far exceeded any amount of monetary reward you would be given otherwise.

“Growth” doesn’t necessarily mean monetary. We are holistic advisors and strongly believe in the power a wonderful life experience can have on you and your loved ones.

So, be it that cruise you’ve always wanted to take, that classic car you’ve always wanted to buy, or passing on your money for a grandchild’s education, we will help you find whatever path helps you to achieve maximum growth in your life.
